I wonder why the Escorts were so utterly dominant. I'd be willing to bet it was the team that was behind them as much as the car itself, as in specification it's no better or worse than a number of other cars racing against it.
I know there's a quote out there about the BMC rally efforts with the Minis. They were competitive long after their car should have been purely due to the experience and efficiency of their team.
Actually, I wonder if a lot of those moved to the Ford rally effort after BMC pulled out...

Yeah, people from teams move around. That harmony in a team is worth the most, all the little things that could be better add up. If the car is driving the way the driver wants and the team is clicking, hard to stop the momentum. Getting momentum when its all off is the tricky part, you can see teams like McLaren who have no doubt gone over their team with scientific precision and it isn't meshing right now. Sometimes it all just works and nobody knows why.
